With a range of flooring options available it can be difficult to know which one you should choose. To help with your decision making, we have put together some tips for each room to help you make the right decision.

Hallways

Often overlooked, hallways tend to end up treated like corridors and don’t often get much thought when it comes to decorating. In fact, the flooring you choose for your hallways is very important, not only because they’re usually the first part of your home people see, but because they see the highest levels of traffic and need to withstand a lot of use.

Popular choices are solid wood floors or luxury vinyl tiles. That’s because these offer durability whilst still adding style to your home. They are also practical and easy to clean, especially on those rainy days when water and mud often get traipsed into the home.

Carpets are also a good choice. Graded on their durability, carpets that are for heavy to very heavy domestic use would be more likely to stand the test of time than lighter carpets. The extra cost would definitely be worth it as they wouldn’t need to be replaced as frequently.

Living Rooms

Neutral and plain carpets are still one of the most popular choices when it comes to the living room. They go with most home décor options and can fit with all colour schemes, meaning you don’t have to change your carpet if you redecorate or even just get new curtains! Ones with a flecked appearance are usually best if you have pets as it helps to hide inevitable marks.

Solid wood flooring is also becoming more popular due to its durability, especially if you have kids, as it is easier to clean. It also looks particularly good when used throughout the ground floor, creating an illusion of space with its continuity.

Bedrooms

The bedroom is where textures become important, and where most people tend to indulge in a softer deep-pile carpet because it feels nicer on the feet first thing in the morning. If it is for a child’s bedroom it would be better to consider a darker colour or a heavy-duty domestic wear carpet so that you know it can cope with a few accidents and spillages.

Solid wood flooring is also another option for your bedroom, although less popular as it is not as cosy for your feet. However, if you love the style of wooden flooring, there is nothing stopping you. Using a rug by the bed means you can get the luxury style of solid wood flooring whilst still treating your feet to a bit of warmth and comfort where it is needed. You can also get luxury vinyl tiles that are realistically inspired by real wood which would also be a good option if you’re looking for something a little different.

Bathroom

Although carpet used to be a popular choice, it is now often deemed unhygienic and hard to clean, meaning it is becoming less common in bathrooms. Vinyl is one of the most popular options as it is waterproof, easy to clean and with a range of styles available, it is easy to find something to fit the style of your home.

Whichever flooring you choose, we can help you every step of the way and can fit it for you too. We stock a range of flooring options for you to choose from, including real wood flooring, luxury stone- and wood-inspired vinyl tiles and high-quality carpets.
