Interior design is the art of enhancing the inside of a building to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing and balanced environment. Often thought of as a bit of a science, it is easy to get overwhelmed with all of the colour options, flooring types, curtain shapes and all the other things that need to be considered. That is why Winnens has their own in-house interior designer – me!
But who am I? Well, that’s what I’m here to talk about!
I am Gina Gibbs and with my wide-ranging experience and knowledge of furniture and interior design, I am the resident interior designer here at Winnens. I wanted to take a bit of time to introduce myself to you and to talk about what I’ve done and how that means I can help you, so here it goes.
Having studied Art & Design at college, I worked for Geoffrey Draytons in Essex as a designer for 9 years. I then relocated to Cheltenham in 1990 and worked at Perrings and Skopos. Over these years I gained extensive experience within the interior design and furniture industry.
In 1999, my husband and I decided to take the plunge and use our understanding of interior design to set up our own company. It was an interior design company and we completed projects within the local area as well as in London. We worked on very prestigious jobs and I am very proud of the work we completed during this time.
In 2003 I decided to join Winnens and I have been their design consultant ever since. I am honoured to have been able to join this amazing team and work with such wonderful customers. One of the projects I have worked on was the Beaumont House Hotel.
This room is the main sitting room. I worked on 3 different schemes for them and they choose this one. Winnens supplied all the curtains upholstery and carpets for this project. The carpet was a Brintons one that was designed by Lawrence Llewellin-Bowen and the upholstery was done by Wade. The curtains were handmade using pure silk by a local seamstress and they looked absolutely stunning.
I have also worked on many projects for private homes throughout Cheltenham and surrounding areas. One of which was a grand Regency house in the centre of Cheltenham. The focus of my design was to highlight the owner’s lovely antiques. Again, all the curtains were made using silk which is one of my favourite materials to use in period buildings. We also used blue curtains made from silk in another room. We worked with this client on many projects including a property to let next door and their daughter’s house in the Cotswold.
Another project that we worked on was a smaller house. This was a particularly exciting job because it posed a bit of a challenge, and we do like a good challenge! During the design process, we had to take into account 3 windows which were all different sizes. We had to come up with ideas on how to decorate them whilst keeping the room looking as balanced as possible. I’m extremely pleased with how this project turned out.
These are just a few of my favourite projects. I am very passionate about interior design and always aim to build a strong relationship with our customers and learn about their likes, dislikes and what they want to get out of the interior design of their homes.
If you’re thinking about getting new flooring, new curtains or even a complete redesign, with Winnens you can get high-quality products and I can share my expertise to help you get the most out of your home.
